No matter what age you are, if you identify as an Early Career Sociologist, then this is the Forum for you!
Launched in 2009, the BSA Early Career Forum (ECF) recognises the distinct set of challenges facing early career sociologists in the current academic and employment climate and aims to provide support and assistance to meet the specific needs of this community.
Working in conjunction with established academic organizations (e.g. C-SAP, SRA) and alongside the BSA’s thriving study group network, we provide the following services designed to support the career development of our members:
- Professional Development Award – Financial award to assist with the cost of ECF members’ continued professional development.
- Training/Skill Enhancement Events - e.g. module design and teaching; academic job applications; publications; funding applications; article refereeing; knowledge transfer strategies.
- ECF workshops at the BSA Annual Conference.
- Specialized ECF area on the BSA website - including a regularly updated list of forthcoming ECF events, database of funding bodies/awards for ECFs, space to share good teaching practice.
- Quarterly e-newsletter and facebook page.
The ECF convenor team is always on the look out for new ways in which the forum can support the needs of our community - if you have any suggestions, questions or queries please contact us.
If you are not already an ECF member, but are interested in joining the forum, please email Sandra Harris.
The convenor team is:
- Dr Ruth Lewis - London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
- Dr Lara Killick - University of the Pacific, USA
- Dr Tam Sanger - Queen's University Belfast
