- American Sociological Association - The American Sociological Association is a non-profit association, dedicated to advancing sociology as a scientific discipline and profession serving the public good.
- American Studies Association - The ASA brings together 5,000 members from various disciplines, all with the common desire to view America as a whole, rather than from a single perspective.
- Anabaptist Sociology & Anthropology Association - The ASAA is for sociologists and anthropologists who embrace or study the several Christian movements descended from the Anabaptist movement of the 16th century (e.g., Amish, Brethren, Hutterite, Mennonite).
- ANOVASOFIE, the European Virtual Library of Sociology - This site provides an Internet Tool with comparative functions about the history of Sociology in Europe with the intention of developing it to be a 'living tool' in the sense that everybody interested with a sociological background can join, contribute to his/her country section, can be part of the broader literature and research platform which will evolve and be kept updated in the next months and years.

- Eastern Sociological Society - The Eastern Sociological Society is a non profit organization which aims to promote excellence in sociological scholarship and instruction. The ESS sponsors a professional journal (Sociological Forum), a four-day Annual Meeting in the spring, a newsletter, numerous award competitions, an employment service, and a listserv.
- Economic Social Research Council - The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is a research, funding and training agency which aims to address economic and social concerns. They conduct research on issues of importance to business, the public sector and government.

- ESRC: societytoday - Web-based database that helps users locate and explore the research funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Search to find the latest information on research projects, outputs, publications and research findings.
- European Data Centre for Work and Welfare - EDACwowe is the META-DATA-SHELL for European research and policy making in the areas of work and welfare. EDACwowe gives information on and direct links to comparative and national, quantitative and qualitative data on work and welfare and closely related fields.
- European Society for Rural Sociology - Over the past 40 years Sociologia Ruralis has been an international forum for social scientists engaged in a wide variety of disciplines, and focuses on social, political and cultural aspects of rural development.

Established in the early-1990´s, the ESA a non-profic Europe-wide academic association of sociologists, comprising over 700 members. The Society aims to give sociology a voice in European affairs, and publishes a twice-yearly newsletter, ´European Sociologist´, which can be viewed via the website.

- HERO - Higher Education and Research Opportunities in the UK - A searchable database of recent RAE* research submissions, which can be searched by author, research subject, subject areas (e.g. sociology, social work etc), institution etc. Also contains course information.
- Higher Education in Scotland: A national programme of Enhancement Themes, aimed at developing and sharing good practice in learning and teaching in HE. The work of QAA Scotland encompasses a broad range of issues within higher education in Scotland.

- International Association for the Study of Sexuality, Culture and Society (IASSCS) - The IASSCS aims to to provide a forum for expanding and developing sexuality as a legitimate area of scholarship, by creating and fund an international internet user system for sharing information and resources, as well as creating an Electronic Newsletter, reproduced in printed form for those members unable to access the internet.
- International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA) - INSNA is the professional association for researchers interested in social network analysis.
- International Sociological Association (ISA) - ISA is a non-profit association for scientific purposes in the field of sociology and social sciences, with members from 109 countries.
- Intute - A national Internet service funded by the ESRC and the Higher Education Funding Councils, designed to help social scientists find high quality information on the Internet that is suitable for education and research.

- Midwest Sociological Society - professional organization of academic and applied sociologists as well as students of the discipline. Members come from all over the world, and receive a regular newsletter as well as subscription to 'The Sociological Quarterly'.

- North Central Sociological Association - The NCSA aims to further the development of sociology as a scientifc and scholarly discipline through research, education and interchange of ideas. Membership is open to all persons interested in and subscribing to its objectives and who have been awarded a graduate degree in Sociology or in closely related fields from accredited institutions.

- Pacific Sociological Association - "where there is contact of human minds, there association exits; where there is no contact, there is a state of isolation." The Association holds an annual meeting in late March or early April and publishes a newsletter, The Pacific Sociologist, and a journal, Sociological Perspectives.

Queer Research Directory - The QRD provides a forum for current research, teaching methods and materials, and professional issues relevant to homosexuality. The QRD also supports GLQSOC-L, which is a gay/lesbian/queer social sciences list, intended to facilitate coordination among sociologists, anthropologists, historians, economists, political scientists, psychologists, and anyone interested in any of these strategies for disciplining anti-homophobic research in the social sciences.

- RDInfo - Offers the additional facility to register for weekly updates on funding opportunities.
- RDLearning - Provides a means of adding events you may be planning to this widely used website.
- Regional Studies Association - An independent, interdisciplinary body concerned with analysis of regions and regional issues.
- Research Committee on Sociology of Law - Established in 1962, the Research Committee on Sociology of Law (RCSL) shall act as a free association of scholars active in sociology of law or socio-legal studies all around the world, whatever their nationality, opinion and scientific or methodological tendency.
- Researcher Development Initiative - supports the training and development of researchers in the social sciences at all stages of their career. Established by ESRC’s Training and Development Board, RDI contributes to the development of a robust national training infrastructure intended to drive forward research training in a systematic way.
- Research Network on the Sociology of Risk and Uncertainty (SoRU) - The central aims of the SoRU research network are to establish a sustainable discourse on the sociology of risk and uncertainty in order to support and trigger new theoretical and empirical developments in (trans-) national research.

- Society for the Study of Social Problems - An interdisciplinary community of scholars, practitioners, advocates and students interested in the application of critical, scientific and humanistic perspectives to the study of vital social problems.
- Sociological Association of Aotearoa New Zealand - The Association´s newsletter is available for free on the website, along with a list of abstracts from previous editions of the ´New Zealand Sociologist´ journal.
- Sociological Practice Association - The SPA website includes links to other sociology websites and access to recent and back issues of their newsletter.
- Sociologists of Minnesota - The website includes job-seeking advice (for the USA), as well as the latest copy of the organisation´s newsletter. There is also an section specifically for sociology students.
- Sociologists without Borders - is an international non-governmental organisation devoted to the study, research, and teaching of human rights (as human rights are understood in the international community).
- Southern Sociological Society - The Southern Sociological Society is a society of professionals that promotes the development of sociology as a profession and scientific discipline by the maintenance of high academic professional and ethical standards. Subscriptions to their quarterly journal ´Social Forces´ can be ordered from the website.

- The Mid-South Sociological Association - Founded as a non-profit professional organisation in 1976, the MSSA promotes the study and understanding of sociological and related issues and problems. The website includes links to other sites of interest, as well as links to online sociology courses.
- The Westermarck Society - Finnish society dedicated to the advancement of sociology in Finland.
- Theory.org.uk - An excellent site for lay and advanced sociologists interested in information on the media, gender and identity theory.

Information for Practice
IP is a new, free, resource for social service professionals that is updated daily. The focus is on: professionally relevant stories in the world´s news outlets; new articles in scholarly journals; and new resources appearing in the grey literature (e.g., scientific and technical reports primarily from governments and organizations). The goal of this service is to provide social service professionals with easier access to high quality information that can be used to improve their practice.
Users can visit IP as often as they like and even make it their home page. They can use our RSS or Atom options (see the bottom of the News, Articles or Grey Literature column). Alternatively they can subscribe to our service that will alert them at the end of each month when the previous month´s archive is complete. The entire site is searchable via a local Google search feature.
