Message from the President

Welcome to the British Sociological Association.  Whether you are a member of the BSA or a member of the public I hope you find what you are looking for.  The BSA aims to promote Sociology in the UK and it sponsors a wide range of activities and initiatives.  The Association has certainly helped me in my career, in fact I don’t think I would have become a professor without the support of my network within the Association.  Membership is at the heart of an organisation such as this and the BSA aims to support people at all stages of their sociological careers - from students to retired members - both inside and outside of Universities.

I am strongly committed to raising the public profile of sociology and sociological research, and to encouraging members and others to engage in public debate.  I see Sociology as an intellectual tool for making sense of both global complexities and everyday intricacies and the BSA as both the forum within which we can debate ideas and the platform from which to promote them.
