BSA Annual Conference: Keynote Speakers
We are delighted that the keynote speakers for the 2010
Annual Conference are:
- Ulrich Beck: renowned German sociologist best
known for his work on 'risk society' and 'cosmopolitanism'/author
of 'World at Risk' and 'Cosmopolitan Europe'.
- Christine Delphy: acclaimed French feminist
sociologist/co-founder with Simone de Beauvoir of the review 'New
Feminist Issues' and author of 'Close to Home: A Materialist
Analysis of Women's Oppression'.
- Paul Gilroy: path-breaking UK social theorist
of race, racism and culture/author of 'There Ain't No Black in the
Union Jack' and 'Darker Than Blue: On The Moral Economies of Black
Atlantic Culture'.
- Helga Nowotny: esteemed Austrian sociologist
of science and technology studies/President of the European
Research Council/author of 'The Public Nature of Science Under
Assault' and co-author of 'Rethinking Science'.
- George Steinmetz: acclaimed US sociologist
addressing the history of sociology and legacies of
colonialism/author of 'The Devil's Handwriting', editor of 'The
Politics of Method' and co-director of the film 'Detroit: Ruin of a
City'.
- Laurie Taylor: renowned UK sociologist and
criminologist, founding member of The National Deviancy Conference,
now public sociologist and presenter of BBC Radio 4's 'Thinking
Allowed' programme.
