MedSoc Annual Conference: Directions

About the Conference Location

The BSA Medical Sociology Group 40th Annual Conference is taking place at the University of Sussex, Falmer, Brighton, BN1 9QU.

 

Conference registration will take place on the third floor of Bramber House.

 

How to get to The University Of Sussex

By Rail

Regular trains from central London take as little as 50 minutes to Brighton. Falmer station – which is directly opposite the university campus – is well served by frequent local trains from Brighton and Lewes (the journey takes about 8 minutes from either direction).

By Bus

Bus number 25 runs between the centre of Brighton and the University - stopping at Churchill Square and Old Steine - bringing passengers directly onto the campus. In addition, bus services 28, 29, 728 and 729 operate between Brighton (Old Steine) and destinations east of Falmer. They all stop right outside the University.

By Coach

Coaches to Brighton leave from London Victoria Coach Station and arrive at Brighton Pool Valley Coach Station. Services depart every hour during the day and the journey takes approximately one hour and 45 minutes. From Pool Valley it is a short walk - approximately 100 metres - to the Old Steine where you can catch a bus (see section on Bus travel) to the University, or alternatively take a taxi.

By Taxi

Taxis are available at Brighton and Lewes Railway Stations and in Central Brighton; it is about 4 miles (6 kilometres) from the centre of Brighton to the University of Sussex. (There is no taxi service Falmer Station.) Please note that traffic in Brighton can be congested and it is often quicker to take the train to and from Falmer (journey time about 8 minutes).

By Car

The University is on the A27 road between Brighton and Lewes. Visitors driving from London and the North should take the M23/A23 towards Brighton, which then joins the A27. There are also regular coach services from London to Brighton, with local bus services operating from the city centre to the University Campus.

Parking

If you are travelling by car to the conference please note that you will need to receive a car-parking permit before you arrive at the conference. Delegates should request further a parking permit by emailing bsamedsoc@britsoc.org.uk with the subject “MedSoc Conference Parking Permit” and including you full name and car registration number in the email.

 

By Air

London Gatwick is 25 miles (40 km) north of Brighton, only half an hour’s journey by road or rail. London Heathrow Airport is little more than an hour’s drive away.

By Sea

Passenger ferries operate between the French port of Dieppe and Newhaven, which has a direct train link to Falmer. Newhaven is just 10 miles (16km) to the east of Brighton, along the coastal A27 road. The other major coast ports offer regular services to destinations in France, Holland and Northern Spain.
