Joining the Association

Membership of the British Sociological Association is open to anyone and everyone who has a general interest in the study of sociology. Members do not need to be elected, and may join the BSA directly.  JOIN ONLINE NOW!

We have approximately 2,500 members of which 700 are postgraduate students based within various UK institutions.

The annual membership period runs from January to December each year. Applications received before October 1st will be processed for the current calendar year. Applications received after October 1st will be processed for the following calendar year. New joiners applying for membership after October 1st receive the remainder of the current year FREE including the Winter edition of the Members' Magazine "Network".
