BSA Publications Opportunities

Sociological Futures - Call for Book Proposals

A new book series from the British Sociological Association in partnership with Routledge. This book series, inspired by the vibrant wealth of BSA symposia on a wide variety of sociological themes, will not only enable the fruits of these events to reach a wider audience, but also offers a new outlet for sociologists at all career and publishing stages, from the well-established to emerging sociologists, BSA or non-BSA members, from all parts of the world.

The series welcomes proposals for monographs and edited collections on a wide range of topics related to sociology and sociological research and will feature contemporary work that is theoretically and methodologically innovative, has local or global reach, as well as work that engages or reengages with classic debates in sociology bringing new perspectives to important and relevant topics.  Interested?  Please read the Call for Proposals and complete a Book Proposal Form.

Book Reviewing

Sociology and Work, Employment and Society have vital and vibrant review sections in every issue of the journal.  The editors are always interested in reviews of recent books and they welcome suggestions and offers from academics at all stages of career.

Both journals publish a variety of types of reviews:

  • single book reviews (800 words)
  • joint book reviews (2 books on a related theme – WES only) (1500 words)
  • review essays (substantial commentaries on a theme, frequently multiple books) (3000 words)
  • review symposia (multiple reviewers for 1 book) (800-1000 words)

Both journals are especially interested in review essays.  These types of reviews offer a more substantial publication for the writer and also a greater contribution to the academic record.

To review for Sociology, contact the editors about any potential reviews.

To review for Work, Employment and Society, please email the Reviews Editors, Dr Vanessa Beck and Dr Nikolaus Hammer, about any potential reviews.

Note to publishers: Please do not send unsolicited review copies to the BSA office as we are unable to pass them on to reviewers.
