Book Reviewing
Sociology and Work, Employment and Society have vital and vibrant review sections in every issue of the journal. The editors are always interested in reviews of recent books and they welcome suggestions and offers from academics at all stages of career.
Both journals publish a variety of types of reviews:
- single book reviews (800 words)
- joint book reviews (2 books on a related theme – WES only) (1500 words)
- review essays (substantial commentaries on a theme, frequently multiple books) (3000 words)
- review symposia (multiple reviewers for 1 book) (800-1000 words)
Both journals are especially interested in review essays. These types of reviews offer a more substantial publication for the writer and also a greater contribution to the academic record.
