Sociology of Media Study Group

Introduction

Sociology of Media is one of the most recent of the BSA’s study groups. At present there are about 70 members at various stages of their careers from postgraduate students to those who are starting to see new ideas coming around again.

So far the group have held fourteen meetings. The first, at Nottingham in January 1999, was attended by about a dozen people. Several people who could not attend also expressed support so the group applied for and got formal BSA recognition in the spring of 1999.

There are plenty of opportunities for presenting polished accounts of finished work - some of them more collegial than others. The group is intended to enable members, whatever their age and stage, to discuss work in an informal and encouraging atmosphere. Presentations about work in progress - or even running into problems - are particularly welcome.
