Introduction
Established in 1995, the Sociology of Sport Study Group aims to: promote research and scholarship in the sociology of sport; represent, in appropriate fora, the professional interests of those engaged in the sociology of sport; raise the profile of expertise in the sociology of sport in public debate and within appropriate user constituencies; generate links and liaison with appropriate national and international groups with complementary scholarly interests.
Members include experienced academics and novice researchers. Numerous members have experience of examining research degrees. Some study group members are experienced commentators in the media and can be contacted via the convenor.

The BSA Sociology of Sport Study Group Postgraduate Forum
The Chelsea School, University of Brighton, UK
The 2009 Postgraduate Forum of the BSA Sport Study Group will include papers on a range of sport related topics. Postgraduate researchers will present on issues such as Muslim women's sport participation, nationalism (and the tensions between Englishness and Britishness in particular), as well as issues of aging, disability and gender in sport. The programme will also include a presentation from Prof. John Sugden who will speak in his capacity as editor of the International Review of the Sociology of Sport about the publication process and the common mistakes made by early career researchers. Additionally, Dr Elizabeth Pike (General Secretary of the International Sociology of Sport Association) will talk about the benefits of membership of regional and international associations, including networking opportunities, access to mentor programmes and student awards.
