Youth Study Group

Introduction

Established in 1999, the Youth Study Group intends to provide a forum for all those interested in researching young people.  The group hopes to attract existing BSA members as well as to promote links with other disciplines and agencies involved in youth work and research.

Activities

The group has organised a number of conferences and seminars on a range of youth related topics during its five year life span, some of which have led to the publication of edited collections. For example, the group's methodological conference at the University of Surrey in 2000 led to a Palgrave collection called Researching Youth (Bennett, Cieslik and Miles 2003), while its 'Scenes Subcultures and Tribes' conference at the University of Northampton in 2003 resulted in an anthology called Youth Cultures (Hodkinson and Deicke 2007).   In addition to organising events, the group seeks to enhance electronic communication between youth researchers, something primarily acheived via the ´youth-study´ Jiscmail list.

Annual Report

The Youth Study Group's Annual Report for 2008 is now available.
