BSA Leisure and Recreation Study Group Event: Leisure and the Wellbeing Agenda

16 February 2018 (10:00-17:30)
BSA Meeting Room, London, UK

Call for Papers

Contributions are invited for papers addressing any aspect of leisure and wellbeing. We welcome contributions from a range of perspectives and frameworks: from empirical studies to theoretical critiques; from cross-disciplinary perspectives linking the sociological to the political, philosophical, psychological or economic; from critique of the ‘wellbeing’ concept to the history of wellbeing interventions. The common thread of the contributions will of course be leisure and recreation, whether this be a claim that leisure is a place and source of elements of life-satisfaction, happiness, or the quality of life; or in the form of studies of the ideological dimensions of leisure in strategies of political control and cultural domination.

Speakers will be allocated 20-30 minutes for their contribution, depending upon the numbers in the final line-up.

If you would like to make a presentation, please send a title for your proposed contribution, a short (50-words maximum) summary of the topic/theme, and your title and institutional affiliation to Professor Alan Tomlinson, BSA Leisure & Recreation Study Group Convenor.

The deadline for submissions is: 5pm Friday, 22 December 2017.

Registration for the event is now open online.  There is a nominal fee for the day - £5 for BSA members, £10 for non-members.  Lunch is not included, however the location provides plenty of on-the-spot options for participants for taking lunch.

Non-presenting members and participants are also welcome.
