Membership Categories & Rates
At the BSA, we recognise that we attract a diverse range of individuals and therefore have tailored our membership options to suit individual circumstances. Membership fees are subsidised by the income made by the Association elsewhere in publication and event activities.
At the BSA, we have different categories of membership available based on country of residence and whether an individual is employed, in education or retired. Please note, higher fees for those based outside of the UK are applied in order to cover postage costs to international destinations.
Below is a table to help you determine which category of membership an individual would be eligible for:

Category lists (list A and B) are based on World Bank GNI figures and roughly match those used by the ISA, who similarly differentiate by country of residence.
*If no postal journals are selected, the UK rate applies.
**Please note an Early Career Researcher (ECR) is defined as being within three years of graduation, not in permanent work and registered on the BSA PhD List.
