Mentoring Month

Mentoring Month is an annual initiative for BSA members, offering one-to-one mentoring conversations across the sociological community.

Held each February, the scheme connects members for a focused, 30-minute conversation.  These meetings provide an opportunity to ask questions, share experience and reflect on career development in a flexible, informal format.  Mentoring pairs are matched based on interests, needs and availability.

The programme is open to all BSA members, regardless of career stage.  UK-based and international members are welcome to participate.

Mentoring sessions may cover a range of topics, including:

  • Academic career progression.
  • Research plans and priorities.
  • Publishing strategies and funding opportunities.
  • Interdisciplinary work and collaborations.
  • Navigating post-PhD transitions.

Mentors and mentees meet once, with the option to continue the conversation if both parties wish.  Most meetings take place online.

Mentoring Month is offered as a member benefit and is open to current BSA members only.  Participation is free of charge.  Application details are circulated to members in October.

If you have any questions about the scheme or are interested in joining the BSA to take part, please contact us.
